Thought I would share a little tour of my yard. I have shared snippets here and there on facebook & instagram, but never a full spread. If I'm not DIY'n you can find me here. Gloves and wellies on, face smudged with dirt and sweat and a shovel in hand. I started out knowing nothing and now I feel pretty confidant in my gardening abilities. What was once a dirt patch is now something pretty special (at least to me!). And I guess I must be doing something right cuz the neighbors stop and say th... Continue reading ...

We are dirt people. Shoes off, hose on, toes in the mud, under fingernails and yes, smudged on the face. I was brought up under the guidance of a master green thumb (my mama-dearest) and she passed on a deep appreciation and love of cultivating mother nature. While I am still learning my P's and Q's of the landscaping laws, I sure do love the ride (again with my cliches... I just can't help myself). If I can pass on just one of my interests to my baby-kins I hope it's a passion for the outdoo... Continue reading ...

Chicago Spring Vacation Recap
I know, the picture above is not quite the image you think of when you hear the words, "Vacation in Chicago". But that's how we like it. Just a dab of the city will do ya. Our family is located about an hour & 1/2 to the west of the city in a quaint town surrounded by corn/wheat/soy fields neighbored by more quaint towns followed by more corn//wheat/soy fields and so on and so on. It doesn't take long to get deep into the heartland of America. The trip was a success. A much needed refueling ... Continue reading ...

Welcome to the world of Lucinda Lou... This is her. My daughter. This is typical Lou Lou. She is supposed to be napping, but instead she decided to sneak attack her sleeping baby brother with bombs of baby powder followed by globs of shaving cream and the final 'umphf' on top of the catastrophe cake was a shower of tampon confetti ( don't fret it was a brand new box). A whippersnapper, firecracker and high spirited are all mild compared to what is my daughter. While some ask 'How do you deal?' ... Continue reading ...

I am all tingling with excitement! My monthly book club meeting was last night and it was such a touching moment in my life. Why, you ask? Not because anything particularly spectacular or crazy happened, it was spectacular just because of the point where we all are at in life. So much is going on in our little circle of friends. A baby just arrived, two marriages just happened, one engagement, one pregnancy announcement, crazy world travel... whew I'm exhausted just thinking about it. I am so... Continue reading ...

Today my husband and I celebrate our third anniversary. Yeah for us! A lot has happened in those three years, so much to be very very thankful for. Two babies, a place we call our own, healthy and loving families, wonderful career opportunities... the weather, jk. But in reality we lived a very blessed life and I understand that and try to never take it for granite. Sometimes you just gotta. Disappear for a minute or two. Immerse yourself into the natural world. Become one with nature. Yes, a silly cliche, but at the same time so freeing and centering. My heart and soul goes out to those parents that lost their babies today. I can't imagine the excruciating pain and sadness they are living in. What happened to school being the safest place for your family? I can see that people have already dove deep into the debate of gun control, but that is not what we should be focusing on. Sooo. I know I promised a DIY stitched envelope tutorial. It is coming. I just had to pick up some thread in a different color. Don't worry it will be worth it.. you will be able to bath in all it's cuteness glory. But mostly I wanted to check in and let you know that this weekend was dedicated to prepping for my Halloween extravaganza. A little early? Yeah I guess so... but I plan on starting a family tradition of a totally awesome blow-your-socks-off Halloween Costume party and I w... Continue reading ...

Life At Home
This weekend my parents, the babies and I flew up to Portland Oregon to visit my grandmother. She is my one and only grandmother, as my maternal one passed before I could meet her. (That statement makes me sad because from all the stories I hear about Betty Lou, she and I would have been thick as thieves. With our similar tempers, predilections to having flocked wallpaper on the ceiling and a devotion to anything sweet ). But GM Mary Jane couldn't be sweeter. Exactly what you hope a grandm... Life At Home
Follow my blog with Bloglovin Here is Lou with the attitude's newest gift from her father. Yes it is a tractor... of course it is a John Deere.
It is much to much to big for her, I don't think her feet even reach the pedals. But that doesn't mean good habits can't begin. So while her father gave his big rig a wash she took it upon herself to give her green goodie a good ol scrub down. All by her little self. I asked if she wanted help... but that just got a big 'No!' and my jeans being... Continue reading ...

Life At Home
We all have adventures... some bigger than others. It is so easy to forget how it was when we were little, where EVERYTHING was an adventure. Going to the store, birthday parties, school, tree swings, parades and of course bath time.... all little adventures that shape our personalities as well as our past. As a mom I try to remember not to sweat the little things. Clothes will get dirty, milk will get spilled, vases will get broken and we will be late. But more importantly I try and focus ... This post has been sponsored by Craigslist (not really), but it is definitely a testament to the awesomeness of CL.
While mama bear was at a neighbors baby shower this weekend the hubs was on Lou with the attitude entertainment duty. I thought there would be some playtime in the kiddy pool or perhaps some sandbox castle building...
umm no. Not with my husband. He don't work that way.
I should have known. His eyes are permanently glued to CL always on the look out for a screaming deal for cars/t... Continue reading ...

Gifts of Joy... Joyful Gifts

Getting gifts are the best right? There really is nothing like tearing open some pretty packaging to reveal the goodies inside. Lou with the attitude received a package in the mail from her grandma... and you can feel the joy she is experiencing playing with these new toys. I really hope she keeps that innocence for as long as possible.
She received her own set of cooking utensils and lots of play food to go with it. Not plastic (ugh) play-food but handmade felt play-food (sigh :) ). Alon... Continue reading ...

My Retro Camping Trailer BIG Reveal
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Can you sense my excitement?! After many late late nights of painting and sewing I am so proud to reveal our retro 70's camping trailer! (Need to confirm the make/year/model with the hubs) but that is not really important. What is important is that our little trailer is sooo purdy ;) Its like my third child now. First I thoroughly scrubbed her top to bottom till she was spark spanking sparkling clean. Then I carefully coated her entire interior with many coats of paint.... Continue reading ...
Chalk Paint Fail
Mama bear tried a little experiment today... and it failed. Mommy dearest tried her hand at some homemade chalk paint from a couple of recipes found online. Lou saw me mixing it up and was convinced I was baking a cake so all she wanted to do was taste it. Yucky. Bleck. But Lou with the attitude had a great time so I guess it is not really a fail. Right? I'll just tell myself that and call it a day. Continue reading ...

Life At Home
Welcome Home... the hubs finished the floors, I got my kitchen back and now it's play time :) our entry view from the front door and an industrial cart I picked up from The Vintage Marketplace in Rainbow CA My 'distressed' kitchen table. It was a beautiful natural wood tone, but that was long gone once it flopped out of the hubs' pickup truck when a motorcycle cut him off. Note to self... always strap craigslist items down unless you want the whole 'road rash' look. Anyway, I decided to make my ... Continue reading ...
Family Fun Can Be Scary?
This weekend we attended a distant relation family reunion on the hubs
side. Something like his mothers brothers uncles aunts grandmothers
brothers ect ect ect 90th birthday. We were welcomed with open arms.
While the hubs is somewhat over large family get-togethers, I on the other hand love em. Can't get enough of family (even if it really isn't mine?).
Making sure everyone is included. Speaking to her gammy on the phone
This family is a little different than mine. They have sing-a-longs. ... Continue reading ...

Summer Snapshots: Break it Down to the Little Things
This weekend was fab-u-lous. It really reminded me to enjoy the little things, to take a breather and look at the things around you. Our worlds have grown so big so quickly that small summertime experiences so often get over looked. It also made it blatantly obvious that my level of patience has... exponentially increased :). Which is a good thing. Which is also a must with two small children. I honestly admit that before the kiddos came I was ummm... a little high strung, just a touch.... Continue reading ...

We had an early start to the fourth. The hubs had his eye on a truck that was for sale... about two hours away. So we packed up the kids bright and early and went for a little road trip. Wish I had brought the camera to capture some pics, but with my eyes all sleepy-sleepy I'm surprised I made it into the car. Anyway, that truck was a no go but we got to have a nice convo sesh with the kiddos sound asleep in the back. Here are some snapshots of us around the house before we headed to see som... Summer Snapshots 1
A sneak peek into our life. Life is good :) Her Toms must be on bright and early. She loves them I think as much as she loves me ;) The flooring is coming together nicely. Can't wait for it to be complete. Life with the kiddos and half of the kitchen out of commish is not ideal. Oatmeal, juice and lots of smoochies. This is how we start out day. Playing footsie with my little main man. Besides eating this is his favorite activity (mine too). Tough life Working the vintage tin ceiling. Yes there wi... Continue reading ...

Life At Home
ok so I should have posted this a while ago... as you can see by the fall decorations in some of the pics that this part of the kitchen remodel has been completed for a bit. Actually for more than 6 months it has been like living in a split personality. Literally one wall is done but when you turn around the rest hasn't been touched. Yes living in a partially completed dream kitchen is not only a pain in my rear end but it is mostly a pain in the hubs heiny because I keep changing my dang min... Continue reading ...

Oh baby announcements! Here is my first rendition. I am just having so much fun fiddling with the text and graphics. There are so many great announcements out there that I could choose from, but I really want his personality to show through... yes my two week old has a personality! Such a mellow guy... a lot like his papa. Boy am I blessed! I was so worried that my second baby would be a hellion ( as many other mamas warned me). But no... he is just a peach. Now if he could lend some of his m... Continue reading ...

Our baby boy Lucas Robert was born on April 10th... A super healty 7.5lbs & 20.75" long! I am enjoying this little nugget and getting as much cuddles as I can handle. Lucinda Lou is adjusting well to becoimg a big sister. Her new fav activity is to 'help' change and feed him. Sooooo while I am a bit distracted/busy/sleep deprived these days, my DIY's are not over and done with. Right now I am working on an anthro inspired tote and will have that DIY posted soon.
