How to Make a Felt Birdhouse

So colorful and cheerful right? Just perfect for springtime. I have this cute bugger adorning my bookcase in the living room. As soon as you enter the front door, eyes automatically whiz over to it. Kind of hard to miss. On a side note, this tutorial is more of an idea explanation, then a step by step. It is not complicated to make so no pictures on the 'how to' are needed. Those are the best kinds of tutorials right? Crafts you can just dive in to creating.

*What you will need: Small blank wood birdhouse ( I picked up mine at Micheal's for 1.99 each! Some felt, ribbon, decorative fabric scraps and buttons. I recommend using a hot glue gun instead of glue sticks or elmers craft glue.
*Start by covering the faces of the birdhouse with felt. I laid the birdhouse down on the felt and traced around it. Always cut the shape larger so you can trim it down. For the roof pieces I measured extra large so I could wrap the felt around the edges and glue them down.
*I then hand stitched the ridge-line with a messy cross stitch. This gives it a cohesive 'felt' look, so it looks like it is entirely constuted out of felt and not just felt adorning a wood box.
*Next comes the roof. I picked out all my white buttons and layered them to resemble shingles. Then I worked on the eves by covering them with small green buttons and added yellow and melon colored ones to perk it up.
*I hand stitched a bit of vintage floral fabric to a red heart and then glued that off kilter.
*Trim out the bottom edge with contrasting ribbon. Lastly I wrapped the simple rope hanger with some left over floral ribbon. I think that really 'finished' it nicely

Hope you enjoyed this quick run through. These guys would be great for so many things. Decorate a nursery, a gift for mothers day (perhaps with goodies stuffed inside) or simply make one to add a 'spring' spring in your step. Thanks for stopping by!
