And by honey I mean me. Here is a look at one of my (many many many.... will the list ever end???) ongoing projects/renovations of mi casa. I got a bug in my ear buzzing that I just gotta refinish our butcherblock countertops... like ah'now. I love our butcherblock, or BB's as I call them, it's just that they have been looking, well, rather icky poo lately. Not that I'm no longer a huge fan of the vintage/antique/rustic/dents & dings look, I just feel that they could look better. kinda meh i... Continue reading ...

I was in need of a quick craft to keep my hands busy while the kids napped today. I am trying to limit the amount of (somewhat wasted) time I spend on pinterest/facebook/flickr ect ect ect ect ect. I just get sucked in and a couple of hours later I am zonked, have accomplished nothing and now have to go attend to the babes. Bleck! So here is a cute quickie. DIY Unusual Plant Containers: Succulent Lantern
Why stick to plain-o-jane terra cotta/plastic/concrete plant containers when literally your imagination is the limit to what flowers and plants can live in. Think wheelbarrows, wagons, old chairs, teapots and in this case... one of my thrifted lanterns. While visiting my favorite barn sale this past weekend, I had my eye on garden things. In particular birdbaths, but no luck there. So instead, I scooped up a couple of beat up lanterns w/o their glass with the intention of planting them with s... Continue reading ...
DIY Landscaping: California Waterwise Front Yard
Thought I would share a little tour of my yard. I have shared snippets here and there on facebook & instagram, but never a full spread. If I'm not DIY'n you can find me here. Gloves and wellies on, face smudged with dirt and sweat and a shovel in hand. I started out knowing nothing and now I feel pretty confidant in my gardening abilities. What was once a dirt patch is now something pretty special (at least to me!). And I guess I must be doing something right cuz the neighbors stop and say th... Continue reading ...

We are dirt people. Shoes off, hose on, toes in the mud, under fingernails and yes, smudged on the face. I was brought up under the guidance of a master green thumb (my mama-dearest) and she passed on a deep appreciation and love of cultivating mother nature. While I am still learning my P's and Q's of the landscaping laws, I sure do love the ride (again with my cliches... I just can't help myself). DIY Vintage Painted Sign: Antique Character in an Instant
Anyone else have a major pickin habit? And I don't mean your nose! I mean antique hunting / salvage yard snooping / garage sale gawking / flea market fishing / swap meet swooping.... that kinda picking. I have a running list of items that I'm always on the hunt for. Welcome to the world of Lucinda Lou... This is her. My daughter. This is typical Lou Lou. She is supposed to be napping, but instead she decided to sneak attack her sleeping baby brother with bombs of baby powder followed by globs of shaving cream and the final 'umphf' on top of the catastrophe cake was a shower of tampon confetti ( don't fret it was a brand new box). I have just begun a giant family photo editing spree and had to share this sweet pic of my girl with her grandpa. This was taken while the in laws were out here for a little vacation just a few weeks ago. Lou gets to facetime with her grandpa & grandma almost everyday, but nothing compares to a good ol fashioned cuddle. What a lucky little girl to have a grandpa so devoted as he.
Hop you have something fun for the weekend. My home tour will be up soon and I will pass on the details. Thanks ... Continue reading ...

Evolution of a DIY Painted Staircase
Run! Hide! Shelter your children! It's the great WHITE OUT here in So Cal! Wait No, it's not snow. It's white paint! Whewww... dodged one there. Yes, it is true I have turned to the dark side. Or light side. White side? After many years of dogging people who chose white paint over the bajillion other shades available, I have become one of them. I just finished repainting my kitchen with white paint. And the staircase. And the family room. I am shellacking the whole place! With the new year I was ... Continue reading ...

Here are a few snapshots of the going-ons in our life right now. Hectic yet slow at the same time. Like running in place. Know what I mean? Our little country road got repaved. Very interesting and educational to watch. Before this I had no idea how our roads were put together. It smelled awful, was super noisy, but mostly I was glad to see where all our HOA money was going.(Super OUCH! on the pocket book for the next few months) Now that is fresh! It was smokin! I'm sure you have seen this idea before, as it is all over the blogisphere and interwebs (pinterest, flickr, instagram)... you name it, someone, somewhere has scribbled on a mug. Dairy of parenting a strong willed child: Part one.
Buying a mattress.
To say that my first born, Lou, is a strong willed child is like calling the grand canyon just a valley. True in essence, but greatly inadequate in description. This little one has tested me more than anyone or anything else. A constant button pusher. A true inquisitor. Master of patience draining. Good thing they are so darn cute at this age, right? This has gotta be my all time favorite braided hairstyle. And let me tell ya, I've had at least 2 feet of hair my entire life, so there have been quite a few braided dos. Boho dos can be more difficult to maintain than you think. I love the whole 'wind swept/slept-in/party-all-night' look, I just try to steer clear of the 'homeless' thang. This do does have the boho braids down pat, but also keeps you looking chic because of it's clever twist (more on that soon). I also have bangs and a ... Continue reading ...

Sometimes you just gotta. Disappear for a minute or two. Immerse yourself into the natural world. Become one with nature. Yes, a silly cliche, but at the same time so freeing and centering. We had a scary experience the other night. While on the way back from my monthly book club with my lady friends I ran out of gas on the freeway. With both kids in tow. Out of gas. New paint color really. Truth is that I was never really sold on the color our master had been. I was going for a sophisticated gray with a hint of lavender. My heart and soul goes out to those parents that lost their babies today. I can't imagine the excruciating pain and sadness they are living in. What happened to school being the safest place for your family? I can see that people have already dove deep into the debate of gun control, but that is not what we should be focusing on. He said he wanted a big one, Christmas Tree that is
One of the biggest reasons why I love this man is his child like enthusiasm. He is the one that wakes me up at 4 am on Christmas morning. This DIY is for a wall in our family room. Because I swapped out our mushy section for a super fab vintage davenport I had a blank wall to decorate at will. Yipeee! Having something new to decorate is a little bit exciting don't you think? I like to periodically look at our living spaces and evaluate how it is fu... Continue reading ...
DIY Mini Wheat Wreath
Oh hey-zues-christos...Thanksgiving is just around the corner. As in

Before and After: Staircase Family Photo Wall
This wall has been the bane of my existence. I get heartburn just looking at it. Bahhhhh, it frustrates me to no end! Ok a little exaggerated , but you get my point. I have had such trouble figuring out what to do with this wall. In the short year and a half we have been here it has had quite a few 'lives'. First it was a dining area. Then a reading nook. Then back to a dining area with faux built in benches. Then to a holding area for a table I didn't know what to do with. Then finally to th... Continue reading ...

Oh Charlotte, Charlotte, Charlotte! (from Sex and the City).... I love your honest to goodness totally naive heart. Yes, sometimes the whole 'In love with love' thing can get a little obnoxious, but there certainly is something to be learned from her comment on her level of happiness with her marriage and life. Even in my most hectic days I strive to find the happiness, sometimes they might be fleeting but they are there. When you actually take a step back to breathe it all in, you will find ... Here is the third installment of my ' ease back into sewing like how you gingerly dip into a jacuzzi' sewing series. This is my version of an A line dress, basically the same but with a tweak here and there. This one is a little more complicated than the easy 5 minute flouncy skirt and bubble skirt... but not by that much. The A line dress is another one of those little things that every crafter should know. It seems more complicated than it actually is. In fact all of the sewing projects that... Continue reading ...

Continuing on with my mini sewing series. A few days ago I showed you how to make a Flouncy Skirt. Today I show you my foray into bubbledom. Which is basically the same as the flouncy skirt, just with one tweak. It is an easy tweak so don't get your knickers in a knot. Not one of my sewing tuts are difficult. I want to encourage myself (and you!) to sew more, not less by biting off more than I can chew, or stitch :) Don't you think bubble shape is so darn cute and perfect for a little girl t... I love scarves and wear them any chance I can. As soon as there is the slightest crisp to the air I am wrapping that sucker around my neck. Here is my dilemma. I have long hair and if I wear a scarf, especially if it is a chunky knit, my hair soon turns into a tangled mess. Right there at the nape of my neck should be call 'rat-ville' for the nest that is created. Ouch! So

How to Wear a Cloche Hat

Fall fashion can be tricky right? I love seeing new styles and trying certain things out, but there is always that one piece/accessory that I reserve for the 'Oh I could never pull that one off' category. This season it is the cloche hat. A little vintage, a little preppy and a whole lot of sass. Right up my alley. The cloche hat made a reappearance last fall season and it seems to be sticking around for a while. But it does look like a difficult accessory to correctly style... at least t... This one goes out to all my fellow bibliophiles.... holla!
Brass Tacks: Pretty self explanatory here. Find a big ol book, slice it up and shove in a couple of bud vases.... ok that wasn't much help was it? The key to this DIY is finding a bud vase that will fit inside a book. In this case my book was the 7th installment of Harry Potter (sorry Harry!). It was big, bulky and taking up space... time to re-purpose. I found the little bud vases at where else, Hobby Lobby. They were on sale and were ... Continue reading ...

But as always fashion styles grow on me until I find myself wearing a beret, harem pants a fur vest and lace boot socks all at the same time ;). This weekend my parents, the babies and I flew up to Portland Oregon to visit my grandmother. She is my one and only grandmother, as my maternal one passed before I could meet her. (That statement makes me sad because from all the stories I hear about Betty Lou, she and I would have been thick as thieves. With our similar tempers, predilections to having flocked wallpaper on the ceiling and a devotion to anything sweet ). But GM Mary Jane couldn't be sweeter. Exactly what you hope a grandm... I have seen this tutorial on the web before, but I wanted to give it a go myself! Watches similar to these are at anthropologie and other $$$ stores. Just cementing my love hate relationships with anthropologie... I love ya but hate ya prices! Nothing new there! My biggest tip for this tutorial and ones similar is to scrounge! Scrounge around your house for unused potential! I was able to make this and other items in my tutorials for free because I simply used items that were laying around ... Continue reading ...
Shopping Review: The Vintage Marketplace
One of my favorite flea markets! The Vintage Marketplace happens about 4 times a year located in Rainbow California (right on the edge of San Diego & Temecula county lines) at the Rainbow Oaks park and shopping center. It doesn't hurt that this show is only five minutes from my house! I mean come on! 5 minutes! One of the downfalls of living in the country (as country as San Diego can be ;) ) is that EVERYthing is so dang far! And with rising gas prices I really think twice about my car ad... Shopping Review: Second Chances Barn
Living in a small town, and quite a commute to favorite resources (Ikea, Hobby Lobby, Target ect) I am so very happy to report such a lovely shopping find! Second Chances Barn is located right up the country road from me in Fallbrook. Outfitted in an old metal barn along side a babbling creek I have found it such a pleasant place to shop. Similar to Urban Barn (which I reviewed HERE) the shop is stocked full of a variety of vendors. Lots of reclaimed furniture that has been given a second ... Continue reading ...
Shopping Review: Urban Barn
As an avid flea marketer and junker I can't pass up a permanent installation of quality salvage and retro antiques. Urban Barn provides such! Located in an industrial part of Escondido CA, it can be a little difficult to locate your first time but it is fairly easy to get to because it is almost directly off the freeway. Urban Barn is housed in a giant warehouse and parking lot full of salvage, antiques, retro gear & handcrafted lovelies. Every time I have visited Urban Barn I leave wi... Continue reading ...

Decor Crafts
My goal here at Home Heart Craft is to help you get instant gratification from your crafts, and this is the perfect candidate! I completed each one in less than a hour in front of the TV and was able to watch my fav shows. So after your kiddos go to bed, or during nap time, you can easily get this project done. Materials: *Foam wreath, any size will work, but I recommend starting with an 8" or 12". Any bigger and you will need extra yarn/burlap to cover it. *Yarn, twin, burlap... anything you...
