DIY Two Minute Fabric Scrap Flower Hair Pin (No Sew No Glue)

Posted by Honor on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, In : Accessories

I was in need of a quick craft to keep my hands busy while the kids napped today. I am trying to limit the amount of (somewhat wasted) time I spend on pinterest/facebook/flickr ect ect ect ect ect. I just get sucked in and a couple of hours later I am zonked, have accomplished nothing and now have to go attend to the babes. Bleck!
So here is a cute quickie. Good for either you or your lady-ettes in training....
You will need the supplies above. Fabric scraps, thick baker's trim, scissors and h...

Have You Met My Daughter Yet?

Posted by Honor on Monday, April 29, 2013, In : Life At Home
Welcome to the world of Lucinda Lou...

This is her. My daughter. This is typical Lou Lou. She is supposed to be napping, but instead she decided to sneak attack her sleeping baby brother with bombs of baby powder followed by globs of shaving cream and the final 'umphf' on top of the catastrophe cake was a shower of tampon confetti (don't fret it was a brand new box). A whippersnapper, firecracker and high spirited are all mild compared to what is my daughter. While some ask 'How do you deal?' ...

DIY Birthday 'Stats' Chalkboard

Posted by Honor on Thursday, April 18, 2013, In : Party Decorations

I received quite a few emails about how I made little man's birthday chalkboard signs, so I thought I would tackle another in a DIY version to share with you all.
While google'n and pinteresting decor ideas for LM's bday I came across the most adorable chalk signs on etsy. I don't remember who they were by, but they did cost a pretty penny. Not in the budget. But hey it's just chalk right? Should be simple right? Ummm yes and ah no.  Read on for my tips and tricks for tackling a chalkboard sig...

Happy First Birthday Little Man!

Posted by Honor on Monday, April 8, 2013, In : Life At Home

Little man's stats board. A canvas sprayed with chalkboard paint and then decorated with chalkboard markers. While it was supposed to be temporary, I'm thinkin this baby is going on permanent display.

Please excuse my absence for the past couple of days... but I have been a lil busy bee prepping for and then celebrating my son's first birthday! I'm like Whooot Whoot  on the outside and like boo who on the inside! I can/can't believe my chunk-a-monk is one year old. Some moments seemed to pass...

Posted by Honor on Thursday, March 14, 2013, In : Life At Home

disneyland.... Disneyland.... DISNEYLAND!!!!

It was sunny and beautiful and magical and wonderful and madness and amazing people watching and lesson learning and delicious and intense and hilarious and, well, everything! Every type of emotion and experience jamb packed into one day, one place one moment in time. Talk about sensory overload. We are still super tired, feels like I just ran a marathon... not that I have ever run a marathon... but I imagine my feet would feel just. like. this.

Inspirational Places: Balboa Park

Posted by Honor on Friday, March 8, 2013, In : Life At Home
The little ones and I went to a fantastic place this week looking to have an adventure. It was a magical wonderland full of lollipops and gargoyles. Well, no lollipops but there were definitely gargoyles! We ventured to Balboa Park,  hugely important point of historical interest here in San Diego. Here is what wikipedia has to say about it..

Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre urban cultural park in San Diego, California. In addition to open space areas, natural vegetation green belts, gardens and wal...

Weekend Wildflowers

Posted by Honor on Monday, March 4, 2013, In : Life At Home

Weekends like what just happened, remind me why our family is so blessed to live in southern California... and why we will never ever never ever never never NEVER move away. Unless we have to. Begrudgingly, I would welcome new adventures and new locations but not with out a great big harumph!!!! first.
Our weather was splendid, the wildflowers are blooming (spring comes extra extra early here) and the big man had the weekend off. Triple threat. We BBQ'd with close friends. We planted our zinni...

Making: A Quick Getaway

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, In : Life At Home

I make things for a living and a big part of my 'making' life is.... well.... making memories.

This past week the mister was struck by an idea (a genius idea at that!), that our little miss Lou with the attitude has never played in snow. I know what you are thinking... 'poor you in beautiful southern California and your year round tubular weather'. (and Dude, let me tell ya, it is tubular)
 'Boo-freakin-hoo'
Well, yeah! Boo-hoo for us! Snow is awesome. Awesome awesome awesome. And we are just s...

DIY Glitter Rainboots

Posted by Honor on Monday, February 25, 2013, In : Accessories

Anyone else like to rock rain boots on a nice sunny day? Me and my little gal sure do. I'm thinkin she picked it up from me ;) . We love to plop on our wellies (or goat ropers, as my husband calls them) to do a little gardening or what knot, regardless if there are puddles to stomp through or not. I have a festive pink and white polka dot pair, but poor Lou only has a plainie janie black rubber pair. Perfectly functional and acceptable but not nearly fashionable enough for a gal with this muc...

Watercolor Practice

Posted by Honor on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, In : Life At Home

Goof off time for me is pretty rare these days. Sometimes I lose myself in memories of way way back when I had no babies, no hubby, no major responsibilities. When I could lounge around a read 5 magazines front to back without interruption. When I could sketch, paint and write for hours on end. Just get lost in my thoughts. Ahhh those days! They were fun. But I couldn't help feeling lost then. Like I was waiting for something. Well, I'm not waiting anymore! I'm struggling to keep up! Funny ho...

Pillow Mosh Pit

Posted by Honor on Thursday, January 24, 2013, In : Life At Home

I am ecstatic that these two really enjoy each others company. They giggle and laugh and talk to each other. Well, Lou talks and the little man ' Mamamamama ma MA mama MAMAMAM's' at her. Lou is generous with her toys but he is much more interested in her. Sprint crawling after her if she saunters away. She is gentle with him (most of the time anyway). I am also very surprised that she tolerates little man getting a tad more attention right now. Nursing, crawling up the stairs, diapers... you...

Shared Bedroom Sneak Peek

Posted by Honor on Thursday, December 20, 2012, In : Decor Crafts
He is a sneak peek into what I have been working on lately. As I mentioned before here I am in the middle of a room swap, turning my old office into the kids shared bedroom. While making up my mind on the furniture situation I decided to jazz up the long wall in the room. As of right now this wall will be free of any furniture, just toys stacked up in front, so it will be perfect for them to scribble away.

First I created a chair rail by attaching some pre finished lightweight trim. I used qu...

An Animal Cracker Kind Of Day

Posted by Honor on Thursday, December 20, 2012, In : Life At Home

Yep, some days you just want to shovel in some animal crackers hand over fist.

Welcome to my pity party.

I don't want to complain but I am a bit grumpy over the other night and I am trying to move on. Long story short, we went to a holiday party hosted by old Navy friends of the huz. So while he was out by the fire pit reminiscing I was left to my own devices to corral a wicked fast crawler and a super stubborn two year old. Usually I can laugh it off when Lou pulls some attitude with an audie...

Sewing Series: Girls A Line Dress

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, In : Clothing

Here is the third installment of my ' ease back into sewing like how you gingerly dip into a jacuzzi' sewing series. This is my version of an A line dress, basically the same but with a tweak here and there. This one is a little more complicated than the easy 5 minute flouncy skirt and bubble skirt... but not by that much.

The A line dress is another one of those little things that every crafter should know. It seems more complicated than it actually is. In fact all of the sewing projects that...

Sewing Series: 5 Minute Little Girl's Bubble Skirt

Posted by Honor on Monday, November 12, 2012, In : Clothing
Continuing on with my mini sewing series. A few days ago I showed you how to make a Flouncy Skirt. Today I show you my foray into bubbledom. Which is basically the same as the flouncy skirt, just with one tweak. It is an easy tweak so don't get your knickers in a knot. Not one of my sewing tuts are difficult. I want to encourage myself (and you!) to sew more, not less by biting off more than I can chew, or stitch :)

Don't you think bubble shape is so darn cute and perfect for a little girl t...

Sewing Series: DIY 5 Minute Little Girl Skirt

Posted by Honor on Saturday, November 10, 2012, In : Clothing

I used to sew a ton. I was a serging and stitching maniac. Any and everything from million layer tulle tutus (yes, an adult can wear a tutu... think Carrie from SATH), to maxi dresses and even a tank top or two. Jersey was my favorite, but man o man is it a finicky fabric to work with! Definitely not for beginners.

It has been a few years since I broke out the sewing machine for a 'serious' sewing project so I thought I would ease myself back in. As in I will stitch up a few items for Lou... ...

The Davenport

Posted by Honor on Monday, November 5, 2012, In : Life At Home

I Love love love this snapshot of them. I will have to look back on this when they are tearing each others hair out and say to them, 'SEE!!! You can get along!'

Welcome to our new haven. This chartreuse and cream floral wonder is our 'new' sofa. Eight feet long of vintage cushy pillow wonderful. I have recently vowed to myself that old is the new 'new'. No more new furniture when there are plenty of hardy handcrafted in the US of A battleships out there. I haven't named this beauty yet but I a...

DIY Glitter Glue and Paint

Posted by Honor on Monday, October 29, 2012, In : Crafter's Toolbox

This recipe (minus the glitter) is perfect for homemade glue or wallpaper paste as well!

Tips & Tricks: This recipe makes one large bowl or about 4 pint mason jars worth. I like making this amount because it is easy to save, and I go through about this much in a weeks time. We love our crafting around these here parts, especially now that it is holiday season. October till end of December is holiday season for us.

This recipe really is simple. I have seen some crafters heat this stuff up, or a...

Future Best Friends? Here is Hoping!

Posted by Honor on Monday, October 8, 2012, In : Life At Home

Put little man down for a nap and ran to the restroom. I thought Lou with the Attitude was munching on some cheerios in her room but I thought wrong. I left the RR and was drawn in to our bedroom by the joyful sound of giggling. Lou thought better of nap time and decided it was playtime. So she helped herself into his playpen and proceeded to tickle little man. Both were giggling and laughing up a storm. Boy do I hope their friendship stays strong and that they will grow up loving each oth...

Her First Butterfly

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, In : Life At Home

So exciting to be able to capture her 'firsts'. This was her first butterfly! I was futzing around inside when the hubs ran in and said grab the camera. There they were, engaged in a dance of sort. The butterfly letting Lou with the attitude dangerously close before it flitter and fluttered away. Like a feather on the breeze. But this was a friendly (or hurt) butterfly and fluttered away only so far. Perfect for chasing.

Thought that this special little moment was worth sharing. Hop...

Today was a good day... Beach Day

Posted by Honor on Sunday, September 16, 2012, In : Life At Home

In order to escape the blazing-hot-surface-of-the-sun-indian-summer we are experiencing here in southern California, we did what any sane family would do and headed to the beach. It was a great family day. Thought I would share a couple of snapshots. Hope you are having a great weekend. Lots of DIYs scheduled for this week!

Visiting Ghosts

Posted by Honor on Monday, August 27, 2012, In : Life At Home
This weekend my parents, the babies and I flew up to Portland Oregon to visit my grandmother. She is my one and only grandmother, as my maternal one passed before I could meet her. (That statement makes me sad because from all the stories I hear about Betty Lou, she and I would have been thick as thieves. With our similar tempers, predilections to having flocked wallpaper on the ceiling and a devotion to anything sweet ).
But GM Mary Jane couldn't be sweeter. Exactly what you hope a grandm...

Gifts of Joy... Joyful Gifts

Posted by Honor on Monday, August 6, 2012, In : Life At Home
Getting gifts are the best right? There really is nothing like tearing open some pretty packaging to reveal the goodies inside. Lou with the attitude received a package in the mail from her grandma... and you can feel the joy she is experiencing playing with these new toys. I really hope she keeps that innocence for as long as possible.

She received her own set of cooking utensils and lots of play food to go with it. Not plastic (ugh) play-food but handmade felt play-food (sigh :) ). Alon...

Chalk Paint Fail

Posted by Honor on Monday, July 23, 2012, In : Life At Home
Mama bear tried a little experiment today... and it failed.

Mommy dearest tried her hand at some homemade chalk paint from a couple of recipes found online. Lou saw me mixing it up and was convinced I was baking a cake so all she wanted to do was taste it. Yucky. Bleck.

But Lou with the attitude had a great time so I guess it is not really a fail. Right? I'll just tell myself that and call it a day.

she had plenty of fun standing in the paint containers... then proceeded to dump them out and ...
