We are dirt people. Shoes off, hose on, toes in the mud, under fingernails and yes, smudged on the face. I was brought up under the guidance of a master green thumb (my mama-dearest) and she passed on a deep appreciation and love of cultivating mother nature. While I am still learning my P's and Q's of the landscaping laws, I sure do love the ride (again with my cliches... I just can't help myself). If I can pass on just one of my interests to my baby-kins I hope it's a passion for the outdoo... Continue reading ...

When this diy came to me I smacked myself on the forehead and said "Doy!". So....I have been slacking on getting the kids room together. Seriously slacking. But this weekend I got it in my head to get'er done.... well, at least started. My first mission: The Gallery Wall. But always a but I didn't want to spend a thing. And I didn't. I gathered up some old canvases from the depths of the hall closet and spray painted them with chalkboard paint. The canvases were sourced from Hobby Lobby (intend... Continue reading ...
DIY Vintage Painted Sign: Antique Character in an Instant
Anyone else have a major pickin habit? And I don't mean your nose! I mean antique hunting / salvage yard snooping / garage sale gawking / flea market fishing / swap meet swooping.... that kinda picking. I have a running list of items that I'm always on the hunt for. Goes a little like this: window frames, bird cages, beat up tool boxes, chairs (unfortunately I inherited my mother's love of a good seat) and last but certainly not least good ol' fashioned signage. The crumbly-er more beat up th... Continue reading ...
Happy Mama's Day to.... Me!
Hey-O! Gotta give props to yourself when you can. My kids are happy,

Just perfect for when I'ma looking to impress some house guests... or cook up some home harvested veggies. Holy cow! Did you know super duper fast beans grow? Chicago Spring Vacation Recap
I know, the picture above is not quite the image you think of when you hear the words, "Vacation in Chicago". But that's how we like it. Just a dab of the city will do ya. Our family is located about an hour & 1/2 to the west of the city in a quaint town surrounded by corn/wheat/soy fields neighbored by more quaint towns followed by more corn//wheat/soy fields and so on and so on. It doesn't take long to get deep into the heartland of America. The trip was a success. A much needed refueling ... Continue reading ...

Welcome to the world of Lucinda Lou... This is her. My daughter. This is typical Lou Lou. She is supposed to be napping, but instead she decided to sneak attack her sleeping baby brother with bombs of baby powder followed by globs of shaving cream and the final 'umphf' on top of the catastrophe cake was a shower of tampon confetti ( don't fret it was a brand new box). A whippersnapper, firecracker and high spirited are all mild compared to what is my daughter. While some ask 'How do you deal?' ... Continue reading ...

I am all tingling with excitement! My monthly book club meeting was last night and it was such a touching moment in my life. Why, you ask? Not because anything particularly spectacular or crazy happened, it was spectacular just because of the point where we all are at in life. So much is going on in our little circle of friends. New paint color really. Truth is that I was never really sold on the color our master had been. I was going for a sophisticated gray with a hint of lavender. Hallowen Party Success!
My little muscle man was pooped out before the party even started! Well, the party went off with out a hitch. It was a blast! The kiddos bounced to their little hearts content, decorated dozens of mini pumpkins and ate their weight in candy. I made waaaaay to much food, but hey, leftovers are the best right? And I may have gone overboard with the decorations. Just a little. A smidgen. My only regret is that I wish I took more pics. You all know how it gets before a party. The running around wit... My little main man is 6 months old today. Boy oh boy does it go fast! I really couldn't ask for a more happy, more peaceful, more loving little squishy-mushy-tub-of-love. Yes I am biased. Yes, this is nothing new. Every mama has thought this, said this, lived this.... but oh well. This is my little space of the inter-webs to declare my unending love for my little baby boy. He will always be my little baby boy. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Nuff said. Thanks for stopping by! Continue reading ...

Put little man down for a nap and ran to the restroom. I thought Lou with the Attitude was munching on some cheerios in her room but I thought wrong. I left the RR and was drawn in to our bedroom by the joyful sound of giggling. Lou thought better of nap time and decided it was playtime. So she helped herself into his playpen and proceeded to tickle little man. Both were giggling and laughing up a storm. Boy do I hope their friendship stays strong and that they will grow up loving each oth... Continue reading ...

So we are adjusting to the hub's new schedule quite nicely. Took us a bit to figure it out. But now we got it down pat. Yes the stretches of when he is working nights really suck. Suck suck suck. And the days are long. Long long long. But when he gets those 7 days off in a row... we PARTY! By party, I mean we go to Seaworld. Rock on Shamu. Of course he HAD to wear his Hawaiian shirt to Seaworld and look like a total tourist. But hey, he got about 8 compliments??? on it... 'Hey man... like y... Continue reading ...

As I post these I am brushing away a big single tear. Only one tear because while it does make my heart ache that he is growing up. You can find some tuts here, here or here. Handsome bugger isn't he? I picked him up here. Is it to early to break out the wheat & pumpkins? When really, is it ok to start decorating for fall? This one goes out to all my fellow bibliophiles.... holla!
Brass Tacks: Pretty self explanatory here. Find a big ol book, slice it up and shove in a couple of bud vases.... ok that wasn't much help was it? The key to this DIY is finding a bud vase that will fit inside a book. In this case my book was the 7th installment of Harry Potter (sorry Harry!). It was big, bulky and taking up space... time to re-purpose. I found the little bud vases at where else, Hobby Lobby. They were on sale and were ... Continue reading ...
