Posted by Honor on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

Anyone else have a major pickin habit? And I don't mean your nose! I mean antique hunting / salvage yard snooping / garage sale gawking / flea market fishing / swap meet swooping.... that kinda picking. I have a running list of items that I'm always on the hunt for. Goes a little like this: window frames, bird cages, beat up tool boxes, chairs (unfortunately I inherited my mother's love of a good seat) and last but certainly not least good ol' fashioned signage. The crumbly-er more beat up th...

Posted by Honor on Thursday, April 18, 2013, In : Party Decorations

I received quite a few emails about how I made little man's birthday chalkboard signs, so I thought I would tackle another in a DIY version to share with you all.
While google'n and pinteresting decor ideas for LM's bday I came across the most adorable chalk signs on etsy. I don't remember who they were by, but they did cost a pretty penny. Not in the budget. But hey it's just chalk right? Should be simple right? Ummm yes and ah no.  Read on for my tips and tricks for tackling a chalkboard sig...

DIY Lighted Letters Sign

Posted by Honor on Thursday, February 28, 2013, In : Party Decorations

Lighted signs or aka Marquee signs are all the rage now. Well at least on pinterest and craft sites. Here, let's take a moment to look at some eye candy

Via Etsy (Gorge!)

Via Etsy (Almost a GRAND for this one!!!)

Via Etsy (Really? One letter for $215? Hummmm I love it but that is pretty rich, which I'm not)

Most of the DIY versions are overly involved cutting, gluing, drilling, sawing, spinning, crocheting, magical potions.... ok, maybe not those last three. But in general all the diy versions ...

DIY Eat, Drink & Be Scary Halloween Sign

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, In : Decor Crafts

This was a favorite at our Halloween Party. It was set up at our 'adult' drink table. Beergaritas was our drink of choice. (Our tweaked recipe to follow! Yummy for sure).
This DIY is really simple and more of an idea & inspiration for your own Halloween DIYs.

Supplies: Piece of unfinished wood, orange craft paint, black puff paint, polyurethane, rag or paint brush, pencil and bowl
Steps:
1. Start with an unfinished and clean piece of wood. Mine is about 12" x 24" and 2" thick. A nice solid chunk...

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, In : Party Decorations

BoooooooooBOOOOOOOboooooooBoooooo..... it is starting to feel a little spooky around here.... and I am loving it! In preparation of our family Halloween party I am thinking 'zones'. Drink zone here, food zone there, treat zone here ect ect ect. Right now I am working on the 'entry' zone.  I have an old cauldron and wrought iron fence section that will be for witch broom parking. It just needed a little clarification and this sign is just what was in order... here we go!

Tips & Tricks:

I am currently compiling the tons of pics I have of my DIY Halloween party decorations... let me tell you, there are tons! Excited to share them but here is a little DIY I completed recently to fill in the gaps. Will have some Halloween madness up later this evening ;)

This DIY is really sweet. I was recently contacted by an old high school bud to see if I could source something similar. I wasn't able to so I said I could whip one up. I was lucky to have all the supplies on hand and it o...

Cork Letters

Cool. Cool... but I bet I can beat that price of $12.00 each... and tweak it so it fits my style.  So here we go

What you need: A roll of cork. Found it at Hobby Lobby for $9.00... and it is a LARGE roll. Could fit a dictionary's page worth of words on it. Some wood or card board letters, spray adhesive, craft knife, hot glue and some popsicle sticks.
Tips & Hints: Pretty simple. Spray the front of the letter with the glue, hold it dow...

DIY Kitchen Decor Series: Lettered Kitchen Sign

Posted by Honor on Friday, June 29, 2012, In : Decor Crafts

Love the look of vintage signs like me, but don't want to pay the non-vintage price tag? Make it yourself! I love all the cute kitchen decor that is out there today but I can't see paying a pretty penny for them. They spend their life in the kitchen doomed to get dirty or broken by busy little fingers, so priceless heirlooms are a no go. This DIY is super easy and you are limited only by your imagination. After this I think I will make a whole wall of words like Yummy, Eat Here, Baked Goods ...
