DIY Pottery Barn Slash Restoration Hardware Rope Chandelier

Posted by Honor on Friday, October 3, 2014, In : Decor Crafts

I'm averting my eyes from the date of my last post. Holy shiznit it has been a while hasn't it?! Life has been life lately and I've been out doing life things with my little lives. As I'm sure all you pretties are doing as well. And those 'little lives', they come first you know? No excuses. Just laying it out plain and simple. Being a mama and domestic goddess has been totally mind/body/soul sucking as of late and all of my left over will power has been diverted to restraining myself fro...

DIY Fabric Backsplash

Posted by Honor on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, In : Decor Crafts
I'm at it again, I can't leave well enough alone. It could be the changing of the seasons or it could be my impulsive decorating nature, but I decided that the kitchen could use a little spicing up. And let me tell ya, it's getting hot in heeeerrr. The rest of our house has a southern cali spanish feel, so I thought I'd incorporate that style a little bit more. And what does that mean? Lots of color, pattern, natural and rustic elements and plenty of brass or gold accents. After many a'eve...

DIY Ballard Designs Gilt Mirror

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, In : Decor Crafts

Back for a super duper quick DIY. Doesn't really need much explanation as it's really just'a simple refashion. Spray paint really is a fantastic invention don't-cha know?! You can do so much with so little effort, time and mula.

I spotted these gray plastic ombre mirrors for sale from Target and thought Holy Crap! These look just like the Ballard Designs mirror tryptic that I have been coveting. And covet on and on I'd thought I'd be, until I spotted these cute little suckers for $12. Tota...

DIY Kids Splatter Art on a Drop Cloth

Posted by Honor on Sunday, January 26, 2014, In : Decor Crafts

The kids are restless, I am restless. I have long since reached and passed the 'I'm so over this' part of pregnancy that I'm ready to start doing jumping jacks while running up and down stairs while eating pineapple and drinking castor oil if I knew it would make this kid come out any faster. But alas I must follow the Doc's advice of 'He will come when he comes' and 'rest'.... Uh, yeah right.  I am also continuing to nest even though I have scrubbed every surface, hung every picture, wash...

Decorating with Antlers, Trophy Mounts & Taxidermy

Posted by Honor on Sunday, October 27, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

So so soooooo..... let me start this post off by saying that I KNOW some of ya will think decorating with antlers/heads/mounts is grotesque, kitschy or way to country for ya'll. Others (and I fall into this boat) find decorating with all of the above ^^^ charming, earthy and great! But finding a place for em can be quite difficult, and I want to share a few of my thoughts on this subject. So tune out now if you fall into the first category and listen up if you are like moi.

A Few of My Favorite Things.... Fall Florals

Posted by Honor on Friday, October 11, 2013, In : Decor Crafts
You would think that spring is the season for florals right? But nope. I feel that fall is where it's at. Of course flowers are great year round but as a crafter I feel that during this season you can really let your crafty flag fly high. Just think of all the extras you can add into the arrangements.... fall fruit, branches, pumpkins, fall foliage, sparkly sprigs, pheasant feathers... the list just goes on and on. So I thought I would share with you some seriously stunning fall flower eye...

DIY Built In Office In the Kitchen

Posted by Honor on Friday, September 20, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

Well, here is the finished product. My built in office area in our kitchen/great room. It really is turning out to be the best set up. I can check email and whatnot while the kids snack or play and still be able to keep a keen eye on em. Before I felt like I had to 'slip away' and hole up in our office/guest room while they were sleeping or otherwise seriously occupied. More often than not I'd hear a crash bang boom in the other room and have to stop what I was doing to see if there were an...

Via Hyphen Interiors

Hey guys! Have you seen this before? People are actually PAINTING their UPHOLSTERED furniture with a mixture of latex paint (aka house paint) and fabric medium (used to keep 'wearables' somewhat flexible and soft after being painted/decorated).

Crazy right???!!! But the results have actually been pretty shocking... shockingly great! See, I have this large settee/sofa that I have been procrastinatin...

DIY Gallery Wall Of Mirrors

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, In : Decor Crafts
We've all seen the 'Gallery Wall'. A mis matched hod podge of pictures, illustrations and various knickknacks that make our hearts go pitter patter. But my heart pitters no more. Instead it yearns for more simple yet stately adornment. Something a bit more grown up. Enter mirrors stage left. Exit mis mash stage right.
Here is my version of a DIY gallery wall of mirrors

DIY Glam Ikea Hack: Coffee Table Edition

Posted by Honor on Friday, August 23, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

Bam! Here is the finished product of my glam ikea hack, inspired by one of my fav blogs, The Hunted Interior.

Sure I'd like to say I come up with ALL the great diy ideas, but alas alas, a diy demi god I am not. What I am is a lover of all good diys and sharing/spreading to good gospel when I can. When I saw this diy, I just knew knew KNEW it was exactly what I had been pining for and I had to give it a shot. And hey?!?! Who can beat that $40 price tag on a new gorgeous gold and glass c...

I Am Hacking Up Some Ikea

Posted by Honor on Thursday, August 22, 2013, In : Decor Crafts
Thanks to one of my fav blogs, The Hunted Interior, I have become a hypocrite.
Just kidding
But not really. I must eat my words. After I saw this diy, I knew I had to made an exodus to the giant blue and yellow warehouse to pick up this table,
the Ikea Vittsjo nesting coffee table, to give it a good ol hack.

I have been searching, and pining, and meditating on finding a new glass and brass coffee table. But to no such luck. Until.... untillllllll ^^^^^^^

DIY Easy Gold Chevron Art

Posted by Honor on Monday, August 19, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

Thought I would ease back into my diy'n from my 'summer break' with a real quick and easy art diy.

I am doing a bit of a rearranging in our upstairs media/family room. I recently got rid of our mile long ancient davenport and now I'm trying to gear the decor to a bit more sophisticated Spanish revival type feel. So while I figure out what I really want I needed a space saver. Some quick, easy and cheap art to fill up the blank loveseat wall. Yes, I could leave well enough alone and not put an...

DIY Mercury Glass Bath Set

Posted by Honor on Friday, August 2, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

And the nesting has begun.... but at least it's starting with pretty girly 'me' stuff and not mushy gushy cutesy babykins. Gotta get the me time in while I can. And how do I like to do that? By taking a nice bath with a stack of magazines and my pandora app blaring. Yep that sounds divine. So I did just that. But did I relax and enjoy it? No of course not! Instead I was staring around my bath thinking that it was lacking in the pretty department and I was totally irked by my mismatching ba...

DIY Layered Gold Mercury Glass

Posted by Honor on Thursday, July 18, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

Anyone else a gold lover?

Me?

I can't get enough of the stuff.

I say bring on the gaudy chunky gold chains, fancy gilt picture frames, glittery gold nailheads on furniture, and glitzy gold buttons and baubles on my clothing. I always find myself reaching for the gold version of whatever as compared to it's equally glamorous cousin, silver. I find gold to be warmer, more inviting. But that's just me.

DIY Faux Aged Mossy Terracotta Pots

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, In : Decor Crafts
I dream of shade gardens. Drafty, soggy, wet, mushy shade gardens. After living in the driest nook of Southern California for my whole life I constantly find myself trying to 'get away' peeking into books labeled, "Gardens of the Pacific Northwest', or 'How to make the most of your shade garden' and even 'Cascadia: Gardening know how for the wet shade garden'.

DIY Pillowcase Fox Softie

Lou asked for a fox today and I thought "Why the hells not?". I'm sure we could whip something up. And boy did we ;)
See below for steps and details....

*Special Note: This diy is for a no sew version because well, it's a big pain in the rear to get the machine out, set up and out of grabby fingers way. DIY Creative Scarf Storage and Organization

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

Anyone else have a scarf monster in the bottom drawer?
I do!
....Or did :)
This unruly creature is composed of all your beloved scarves entwined in such a giant tangled mess, you can't even close the door or drawer. Bulging. Annoying. Frustrating. Pain in da rear-o.
So off I go on a pinterest, google, flickr, library book inspiration adventure. There are all sorts of nice ideas out there, but I wasn't just looking for a (very practical, yet very boring) scarf hanger. Ya Know. Those regular ha...

DIY Cowhide Rug From A Drop Cloth

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

You are either firmly on the cowhide decor train or you're not. I, sadly, am (or was, wink wink ) frantically racing to hop onto that train, but my darn piggy bank full of pennies and not benggies was weighing me down. Wah-wah. On the low (as in crappy) end a cowhide will cost you at least $300 and on the upper (as in baller) end one little rug will cost you a couple grand.  Not that long ago I was perusing pinterest and found these stunners from Shades of Light....

DIY Unusual Plant Containers: Succulent Lantern

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, In : Decor Crafts

Why stick to plain-o-jane terra cotta/plastic/concrete plant containers when literally your imagination is the limit to what flowers and plants can live in. Think wheelbarrows, wagons, old chairs, teapots and in this case... one of my thrifted lanterns. While visiting my favorite barn sale this past weekend, I had my eye on garden things. In particular birdbaths, but no luck there. So instead, I scooped up a couple of beat up lanterns w/o their glass with the intention of planting them with s...

DIY Vintage Painted Sign: Antique Character in an Instant

Anyone else have a major pickin habit? And I don't mean your nose! I mean antique hunting / salvage yard snooping / garage sale gawking / flea market fishing / swap meet swooping.... that kinda picking. I have a running list of items that I'm always on the hunt for. Aren't they purdy? I am just lovin how they turned out. I have a slight confession to make, I am an ugly picture frame hoarder. Bum bum bum baaah.  Just can't help myself! Ever since I learned how to make mercury glass or antique mirrors, I've been snatching up any goodwill/thrift store/swap meet shenanigans I can get my hands on. DIY Vintage Tin Tiles

DIY Multi Pane Antique Mirror

DIY Coffee Filter and Flower Lampshade

What you need: A roll of cork. Found it at Hobby Lobby for $9.00... and it is a LARGE roll. Could fit a dictionary's page worth of words on it. Some wood or card board letters, spray adhesive, craft knife, hot glue and some popsicle sticks.
Tips & Hints: Pretty simple. Spray the front of the letter with the glue, hold it dow...

DIY Anthropologie Art

Posted by Honor on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, In : Decor Crafts
Ok. Love anthropologie but sometimes I think 'you got to be kidding me?!' with regards to their prices.

this is a perfect example

Yellow Bird by Tom Judd....

ok yes it is an original painting/collage but REALLY NOW??? $1500 for a 10"x10" piece of art. One thousand five hundred dollars for less than ONE SQUARE FOOT?!?!?!
Bawwwwwhhhhh

So I gave it a try myself. While I am happy with the results I admit that it is not perfect. Well hey now, I'm not a professional artist you know.

Wood Block Art (Reverse Stencil)

Posted by Honor on Thursday, July 26, 2012, In : Decor Crafts
So this DIY covers a couple of bases. First off it is an idea for what you can do with those scraps of wood that are laying about. I have a couple of those, well actually maybe a garage full. My hording tendencies kick in and I can't get rid of them. I just can't!
Second this DIY covers the reverse stencil technique. Pretty simple but easy to over look when you think about stenciling. Lastly it covers how to make your own contact paper. I never have it around but I always seem to need i...

DIY Vintage Wood Stain

Posted by Honor on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, In : Decor Crafts

My hubs told me about this and I had to try it out to see if it really works. And it does!

Old wood has such a warm and familiar patina. Like favorite park picnic benches. Time worn barns. Brings back the memories.
We have this great black and white photo of the hubs grand pappy and a new sparkly frame just didn't do it justice. So I picked up an unfinished wood frame from Hobby Lobby for a whopping $2.99 and made this beauty. Really like how this came out and I think ...

DIY Scrabble Tiles

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, In : Decor Crafts

As an avid crafter I am always on the look out for interesting supplies or craft accessories. Anything from vintage postage stamps to buttons to ribbon and yes, to scrabble tiles. But we are kind of having a scrabble tile drought around here. I haven't spotted a single tile lately.
So what to do, what to do... make em.

So I headed to my 'church of crafts' good ol Hobby Lobby. I went to the wood isle to see if they had any pre-cut pre-packaged pieces. And alas it is not that easy. So the next b...

DIY Branchlers

Posted by Honor on Friday, July 13, 2012, In : Decor Crafts

Branchlers? Yes I said it... branchlers. The hubs is a little peeved about this DIY. He has been nudging me for a while about hanging a deer head or two in the house and I have adamantly said no. Not just no but HELLS NO!
I am all for hunting and fishing, I just think it crosses the line to bring such game into the house as home decor.... just a tad creepy when you are wandering around in the middle of the night looking to get a glass of water. Just what I need to do is scare the bej...

DIY Anthropologie Lampshade

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, In : Decor Crafts

easy. simple. fun. anthropologie knock-off 'kindergarten style'.

I just pulled up a couple of Anthropologie lampshades and bedding examples and riffed off those. Just sketch very lightly with your pencil and go slowly with the puff paint to avoid blow outs. We want to avoid the splatter spin art look here :)
It is hard to see in the pics but it is the texture that makes the shade so awesome. Looks faux embroidered.
I was originally going to leave the white of the shade show through, but though...

Driftwood Crafts: Painbrush, Pen or Toothbrush Holder

Posted by Honor on Friday, July 6, 2012, In : Decor Crafts

This scenario went down yesterday.

The hubs came rushing in out of the garage while on the phone saying 'Hold on let me get a pen'. He was in hot pursuit of a killer Craigslist deal and needed to get all the details. He rummaged around in one junk drawer.

Then moved on the the next.

And the next.

Then utensils, plates and pots and pans were rattled and strewn about, until he shoots me a dirty look and rushes out of the room again. It happens all the time. Got me thinking that I need a place f...

DIY Kitchen Decor Series: Lettered Kitchen Sign

Posted by Honor on Friday, June 29, 2012, In : Decor Crafts

Love the look of vintage signs like me, but don't want to pay the non-vintage price tag? Make it yourself! I love all the cute kitchen decor that is out there today but I can't see paying a pretty penny for them. They spend their life in the kitchen doomed to get dirty or broken by busy little fingers, so priceless heirlooms are a no go. This DIY is super easy and you are limited only by your imagination. After this I think I will make a whole wall of words like Yummy, Eat Here, Baked Goods ...

Spring cleaning is the theme around my house these days and the first room on my list in need of a big refresher is the master bath.
