Posted by Honor on Thursday, November 20, 2014, In : Holiday Decorations

So it's a balmy 72 degrees outside and you're trying to get into the holiday spirit, what do you do? First off, yes, I live in San Diego, so yes, it really is 72 or really closer to 78 outside. Snowpocalypse? What's that? Is it really lovely all the time here? Definitely. Hard to get into the holiday spirit? Excruciatingly so. My go to besides spotify is the anthropolgie website. It's always packed with cutesie snow/holiday themed graphics and gimmicks perfectly aimed to get you into the holi...

Merry Christmas Y'all! Hope it was a magical, wonderful, joyful celebration full of love and merriment of all kinds.

So here I am @ 34 weeks preggo, in bright and shiny red. JOY... but no really... JOY :)  . Gotta be present and take part of the family right?! Not just stuck behind the camera.

And here is my family sans a few beloveds who we...

Apple Spice Almond Oat Cookies

Posted by Honor on Friday, December 20, 2013, In : Recipes

Today was a baking kind of day. It started out with the usual chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, then proceeded to holiday cut out sugar cookies and after raiding my pantry and finding the mulling spices dwelling oh so lonely in the back I decided to get a lil creative and kick the baking up a notch. The result? These divine soft chewy nutty apple pie-y bits of heaven. And major bonus... baking these leaves your house smelling wondrous for the next few hours!

Ingredients:

How perfect is this?! 4 pre-made gingerbread houses with icing and candies included. All wrapped up in a nice & neat box for a whopping $8. Yes only $8!

Holiday Home Tour 2013

Posted by Honor on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, In : Home Sneek Peek

Welcome to the Kristie Holiday Home Tour version 2013!.... or what I like to call Glittery Gold wonderland. You'd be pretty hard pressed to find a single silver ornament in the mix. Nope. This gal is strictly white lights, glittery gold & wood tones. Just feels like the 'holidays' to me with that simple gold color scheme. And glitter.... lots and lots of glitter. Call me traditional, call me an old fogey, but I like to stick to the classics.

DIY Gold & Nature Tablescape

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, In : Holiday Decorations
I am being such a busy busy bee bustling about putting up Christmas decorations around here that I almost forgot to share my Thanksgiving tablescape. I'm calling this year's theme Golden glam with natural accents. Kinda how I feel about myself. While I'll never turn down a great designer handbag or a chance to take a ride in a luxury vehicle, I'd rather be digging my fingers into the soil planting a new agave.

No big bucks were spent here to create this tablescape. Here is the breakdown

It's Fall, Fall FALL!!!

Posted by Honor on Friday, November 22, 2013, In : Life At Home

Thanks y'all for being so patient! Just got back from a visit to the in-laws in IL. And burrr burrr burrrr! It was a chilly one there. But that's how we like it. Even more reason to hole (or whole?) up in the 'family compound' and just veg out. Let the babies run amok, eat some yummy game meat and just catch up with life. I must say that I am so very blessed to have such loving and kind in-laws, couldn't ask for a better pair!

Ways to Get Out The Gratefulness

Posted by Honor on Thursday, November 7, 2013, In : Life At Home

Yes, you could say these thoughts are brought on by the impending holiday season. Or yes, you could say they have been brought on by the impending person growing in my belly. Either or, I feel that it's time to talk about it. Time for me to work it out. Time for me to verbally (visually? Typothetically?) let it out. What I'm talking about is gratefulness. How to go about getting it. Working on it. Keeping it. Growing it. I feel gratefulness is a muscle that must be stretched and worked...

Visiting the Pumpkin Patch

Posted by Honor on Friday, October 18, 2013, In : Life At Home

Queen of the pumpkin mountain, this feisty little one is ^^^^. Insisted on wearing her witch hat to the pumpkin patch and then proceeded to prance and jump from one orange orb to the next. Which in turn inspired bubba to roam around the giants mounds as well. Which I thought was adorable, but glares from other moms gave me the impression that they thought I was raising a wild pack of hooligans. Oh well.... different strokes for different folks. They are just pumpkins at a patch ya know?! I...

A Few of My Favorite Things.... Fall Florals

Posted by Honor on Friday, October 11, 2013, In : Decor Crafts
You would think that spring is the season for florals right? But nope. I feel that fall is where it's at. Of course flowers are great year round but as a crafter I feel that during this season you can really let your crafty flag fly high. Just think of all the extras you can add into the arrangements.... fall fruit, branches, pumpkins, fall foliage, sparkly sprigs, pheasant feathers... the list just goes on and on. So I thought I would share with you some seriously stunning fall flower eye...

Happy Father's Day To All You Pops Out There

Posted by Honor on Monday, June 17, 2013, In : Life At Home

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers (and father figures) out there!
The realest and manliest men I know are fathers. Tough enough to get over their own egos and play dress up, tea parties and paint nails for all the little princesses. Or patient enough to show their micro mini-mes how to loop de loop and knot some shoe laces.
Between my own father, my husband and father-in-law, I (and my babies) have been extremely blessed to have such amazing, loving, caring, patient and knowledge filled me...

Happy Memorial Day

Posted by Honor on Monday, May 27, 2013, In : Life At Home
Happy Memorial Day to you and yours.

May this day be full of friends, family and lots of love. Historically this day is to remember those who have fought and lost their lives in service to our country, but it's really so much more. Without these brave & strong men and women I sure as hell would not be here today making do-dads and writing about my carefree children. These people and have paved the 'American Way' with their backs and I for one, am thankful and GOD DAMN PROUD TO BE AN AMERI...

And I really mean it by super easy. Literally ten minutes to a fab new accessory (or make up bag, pencil pouch, diaper tote... whateves ;)

The key is finding these pre-cut squares of patterned viny from your local craft joint. I found these at Hobby Lobby for under a buck each. They were located in the felt craft area. They also have some faux tooled leather and super glittery rectangles that I am working with right now.

DIY Hand Stamped Wrapping Paper

Posted by Honor on Monday, December 17, 2012, In : Party Decorations
Back into the swing of things I guess?! Crafting always helped clear my mind (aka distract me from the incessant thoughts and worries buzzing around up there). So what better way to distract myself than with the thoughts of my loved ones faces when I present them with these b-e-a-utiful hand wrapped lovelies.

I did a little experimenting today. Stamp experimenting that is. I did a few variations and this is the first one that I deemed fit to share with you. I tried all sorts of things to stam...

Gift Wrapping Ideas: Brown Kraft Paper

Posted by Honor on Friday, December 14, 2012, In : Party Decorations

Brown Kraft paper is my go-to when it comes to wrapping. It is such a great blank canvas. Lots of different possibilities. Perfect for any crafter to be, well, crafty :)
It is also a great big-o plus that it comes on a HUGE roll and cost only a few bucks. My kind of craft supply. So of course this year is no exception when it came down to wrapping and mailing out some Christmas presents. I rolled out my never ending roll and gathered together some accoutrements and got down to business.  I ...

We had our first 'official' family photos taken yesterday. Yes, it was our first time. Usually I am behind the camera capturing all of our family's candid moments. I am no professional, but I have been pretty happy with the results. But finally I decided to hand the reins over to my dear friend Amanda from Two Roses Photography. She is just starting out and her talent & passion is just overflowing. I was very pleased with the results and can tell you that I am now HOOKED on family photos. I h...

Easy Christmas Decorating: Bookcase

Posted by Honor on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, In : Holiday Decorations

These built in bookcases have been the best addition to our living room. The husband gets to feel accomplished by having built them himself and I get to decorate them. When I feel like futzing around I just shuffle the shelving arrangements and I feel like I have really done something with the day. Just kidding. But decorating these behemoths is a real treat. They are the very first thing you see when you enter our living room so I wanted to do something festive but not over whelming. Here...

He said he wanted a big one, Christmas Tree that is

Posted by Honor on Friday, November 30, 2012, In : Holiday Decorations

One of the biggest reasons why I love this man is his child like enthusiasm. He is the one that wakes me up at 4 am on Christmas morning. He is the one that likes to shake every present under the tree and trick me into revealing what is inside. What a stinker! So I totally saw it coming when he told me he wanted to get the largest tree possible... but this is a whole other bag of potato chips.
We went to a new 'cut your own tree' lot this year. It was quite a hike away, but totally worth it...

I love to incorporate what I already have around the house, such as my vintage window. Top it off with some glittery lights and I am ready to get back to baking some cookies with Lou.
Hope you enjoy my mini tour of my Christmas mantel. Nothing very crazy, but a whole lot of homemade love ;) Hope your decorating is going well.

Do you feel it yet? Has that Christmas/Holiday spirit nipped you in the booty yet? Yes, I know I know it's not even December yet, but that magical feeling has swept into our home with full gale force winds. A tornado of glitter, tinsel, ornaments and cuttings. As stated before I am trying to limit my store bought holiday decorations and really have a go at crafting up my own batch of goodies. Here is my version of an advent/countdown calendar. A bit country and rustic. Rough around the edges ...
