Hello everyone! Welcome to the making of felt flowers! These are another one of my fav quickies. Felt flowers are perfect to put on clipies (little girls hair clips), on clothing, pins and hair combs.
Actually, they go everywhere! Wouldn’t the world be a little better if it was thoroughly adorned with little felt flowers?! Ha just kidding! But these are really simple and oh so cute! Here we go & Thank you for joining me… please let me know how yours turn out!
You will need felt (or any thicker fabric), a hot glue gun, pin, comb or hair clip
Also, you will need a pencil, card stock and your trusty fabric scissors.
Draw a circle about 1.5″ – 2″ in diameter, and a five-petal flower shape approximately 4″ in diameter. You are welcome to enlarge this image or make up your own. The larger the template larger the flower will be.
Cut out the templates and trace on onto the felt light.
Or you can cut out a square of fabric and hold the template in place while you trim around it. It doesn’t have to be perfect and you can always trim the edges to smooth them out.
Cut out one circle and 7 flower shapes
Take your first flower shape and fold it in half
Fold it in half again
Then trim off the point.
Add a dab of hot glue to the edge
and press on to the edge of the felt circle
repeat three more times
So you have four flower shapes trimmed and glued on the base
Then repeat the trimming and gluing and fill in on top of the base
Ta-Da! Here is a felt flower. Fill in with more flower shapes until you reach your desired fullness, but I find that 7 shapes work best.
Add a dab of hot glue on to the pin, comb or clip
and press onto the back of the flower
I repeated this process with a larger template to make a large hair comb flower
Here is the flower & comb
add some glue
Press onto the back
And there you have a picture-perfect hair comb! Obviously, the hair comb will be for me, because there is no way this little dirt princess will keep on in her hair, but I just had to try it out!
Here is a shot of her with the pin and hair comb! Pins again are not the best idea of little fingers that like to pick pick pick!!! But for inspiration’s sake! Love it! Hope you enjoyed this easy peasy felt flower tutorial and please let me know how yours turn out!
