DIY Vintage Wood Stain – Make Furniture Look Old

My hubs told me about this and I had to try it out to see if it really works. And it does!

Old wood has such a warm and familiar patina. Like favorite park picnic benches. Time-worn barns. Brings back the memories.

We have this great black and white photo of the hubs grandpappy and a new sparkly frame just didn’t do it justice.

So I picked up an unfinished wood frame from Hobby Lobby for a whopping $2.99 and made this beauty. Really like how this came out and I think a photo wall full of these bad boys is coming my way.

What to do: Snip off a piece of steel wool. About a 1/4 of the whole poof. But it in a closeable container. Sprinkle about 1/4 cup of used coffee grounds and fill it almost to the top with vinegar.

Shake it all together and let it sit overnight. Rub-down the unfinished wood with the steel wool… I did two coats, and let it sit out in the sun for 20 minutes or so. Brush off the coffee grounds and you are gtg.

Love it love it LOVE IT!

The wood comes out looking just like my old work table… and that thing is decades old.
